CHEERS

Well, OK I'm a bit late with the New Year salutations, but at least it's not too late.

2011 -- Wow it doesn't seem right somehow, my grand babies are growing like weeds. The oldest boy is almost as tall as me and the baby is trying to talk, where do
es time go? Seems I say that alot.

I'm going to attach some random pictures to give everyone a peek into my world.

DH and I at Halloween, it was a blast. I made my costume and his shirt.

Below is my brother. I made his "sock" reindeer as a joke, he loved it.

I'm really enjoying my e-machine, here are a couple of samples from Christmas. A shirt for Miss Ella, youngest grand daughter.

And stockings to hang from a curtain rod in front of the TV because there is no fireplace in the lodge at Lake Talmadge.

Whose Baby

I always knew my son's sons look like him a lot. What do you think?

Rocket on the left, Zach on the right.

Wow 6 months!

How time does fly. There has been so much going on that I haven't had time for all the endeavors I would like to pursue. To me family comes first and we've had more than our share of calamities this year. I won't go into any gory details but 2010 hasn't been the best of years.

So moving on ... I've been sewing every spare minute I have, wishing I had more of them. Here's a couple of obsessions I picked up along the way.

How to Line a Sock Sack

There is a really nice tutorial for making a neat little sack with a zippered front pocket at:

http://terryatkinson.typepad.com/atkinsondesigns/2009/06/sock-sack.html

The only thing is, it's not lined. I like lined pouches, you don't have any raw seams to deal with. So here are my instructions to line the pouch. Let me know what you think.

Under "Cutting" add a 7.5 inches x 20 inches main color piece -- this will be the lining.

Follow the sock sack directions up to "Casings", continue following the directions and stop when you get to "Stitch a 1/4" seam ..."

Set your sack aside for now ...

Take your 7.5"x20" lining piece and fold it in half to make it 10". Sew both 10" sides using a 1/4" seam. Mark the centers of the 7.5" opening.

With right sides together, slide the sock sack into the lining. Match centers.

Pin all around the top, stitch using a 1/4" seam and leaving approximately a 2" opening. (This is a bad photo but I hope you can see the 2" opening.)

Turn the sock sack right side out through this 2" opening.

Smooth the opening edges so they match the seams on both sides and pin the opening closed. With the lining on the outside, top stitch around the upper edge (like sewing around the inside of a barrel) closing the opening.

Continue the original instructions starting at "Ties".

Where Does Time Go?

Seems like no time at all that I started this venture and now it's a month later. My crafting has been suffering too. Not enough hours in the days anymore.

I've recently become the proud owner of 3 vintage machines. All Singers.

This one was in my Great Uncle Jesse's house. One of my aunts snagged it for me, it still works and has been cleaned and oiled by my mechanic. It's almost 100 years old and it really shows that it was used.

This one is a 301, big sister to the Featherweight. I bought it from my sewing machine dealer, it's in wonderful shape for being almost 60 years old.

The third one I don't have a picture of yet. I bought it at the local Goodwill store for $17.99. It's a Crinkle Black Model 60 and is in good shape. It didn't come with a bench but I have one that my mom gave me that's about 30 years old.

Wow

My first ever post on my first ever blog. I have finally done it. Started a blog. Friends tell me that it's fun and doesn't take long to keep up with, we will see, at least I finally got started.

That little guy in the photo is my most recent grandson, Rocket. He's 5 months old and a really sweet baby.

My intentions for this blog is to post some crafting projects along with daily happenings on the home front. If you find this blog and have something to add, please leave me a note.
